Captive Audience

As anyone with children knows, the official phrase of summer is, "Moooooom! Watch me! Watch me!" You will be commanded to watch trick after seemingly identical trick until your eyeballs rot and fall out of your head. It was a big treat for Bug when I took her to a friend's pool this past week while Bear was at dance camp. She proceeded to perform her one-woman, Esther Williamsesque show for me.
And my basic feeling is that, in lieu of anything more exciting to post about, if I had to sit through it so do you. No, no, thank me later.

Swimming underwater like a mermaid...

Jumping in (while holding onto facemask, a very tricky maneuver)...

The very rare, underwater handstand with legs in a diamond shape...very difficult to do, ladies and gentlemen...

Uh...hmm. Not really sure here. I'm thinking this was Bug's version of a water cartwheel. But note the intensity of concentration on her face. She takes her one-woman shows very seriously.
Ta-daaaaaaa! (Please ignore disturbing nose disfiguration due to face mask)...

Never in my life have I seen such an extraordinary water show!!! I could definitely see the similarity to Esther Williams, though I don't remember Esther wearing a face mask. I'm sure she did in her younger days, though. I remember seeing the phenomenal diamond-shaped leg maneuver when we visited in June. Perhaps Bug should patent that one.

Is it too late to get Bug in the summer Olympics this year? The USA swim team could surely use her expertise.

It's only mid-July, so you still have many water shows to ooh and aah over before school starts again. :)

I'm just afraid she wouldn't be able to handle the harshness of the German judge. You see, any feedback short of, "That's EXTRAORDINARY!" doesn't go over very well.

We are amazed how relaxed she is in water. This is great! Second borns always like to be the center of attention, but sometimes it gets us into trouble. Is Bear that comfortable?

Yes, Grandma, Bear is that comfortable in water now, too, thanks to the pool Jenny and Tom put in their yard for the girls to practice in. We had quite a water show performance in June, and I'm sure you'll have front row seats for a repeat performance later this month. Bear's most extraordinary feat is popping up and down inside an inner tube. Not just anyone can do that, you know! :)

What can I say? They're gifted. :)
